It's been a good week this week. Just received a signed contract back from a lovely couple who are getting married in North Yorkshire next year. I love shooting weddings in Yorkshire, such a beautiful county, and the location for this particular wedding will be no exception.
Newburgh Priory is a gorgeous venue and if I'm honest, I'm really, really looking forward to the shoot. Wonderful building and some great backdrop shots to be had.
I'll be photographing the whole day from the bridal party getting ready right through to the first dance, so it'll be a long oul day - but worth it. They're a great couple!
So much so, that I've agreed to do an engagement shoot this summer for them as part of the package. Again, something I'm looking forward to immensely.
Roll on the summer months. Excited..? I am!

Some random facts...
I've had some questions put to me over the last couple of weeks, some of which I thought I'd share on here, who knows, you might want some coffee-break reading...
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SHOOTING PROFESSIONALLY? 2 years, but have been shooting as a hobby since I was in my early teens. My grandparents bought me a small Olympus compact camera to go on holiday with, and have been hooked since then.
WHAT CAMERA DO YOU USE NOW? I use a Canon 5d full frame digital SLR with a myriad of Canon lenses.
DO YOU USE A TRIPOD AND IF SO, WHICH MAKE? Of course, a tripod is a "must-have" in any photographer's kit. I use a Manfrotto Carbon-fibre body with a Manfrotto Pro Joystick head - this makes the process much quicker.
DO YOU USE FILM? Not for commercial work. I mainly only in digital now, but do still have respect and love for film photography.
DO YOU DIGITALLY MANIPULATE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS? I do use the Photoshop CS series to manipulate photographs from a dodge and burn perspective - and also for Graphic Design.
WHO ARE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHIC INFLUENCES? Henri Cartier-Bresson, Linda McCartney, Bryan Adams & the master - Frank Sutcliffe.
DID YOU LEARN PHOTOGRAPHY AT COLLEGE? Yes, I studied Digital Creative Photography at Harrogate College.
DO YOU USE ASSISTANTS? I am happy to work with an assistant to provide experience. Get in touch...
DO YOU HAVE A BOOK OF YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY AVAILABLE? I am working on a book of photographs taken in Italy. I hope to have this published soon.
DO YOU RUN INTO ANY TROUBLE TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS OF STRANGERS? Very rarely. I have learned to be quick and discreet photographing in public. If I am ever stopped or asked about what I am doing, I try to be polite and move on as quickly as possible.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING IN PHOTOGRAPHY? Have a camera around your neck at all times, keep your elbows in, be optimistic and respectful of others and most of all - USE NATURAL LIGHT WHERE POSSIBLE, YOU CAN'T BEAT IT.

100 year old Prediction comes true
In 1900, an American civil engineer called John Elfreth Watkins made a number of predictions about what the world would be like in 2000. One of the predictions he made was in regards to Digital Photography.
Watkins did not, of course, use the word "digital" or spell out precisely how digital cameras and computers would work, but he accurately predicted how people would come to use new photographic technology.
"Photographs will be telegraphed from any distance. If there be a battle in China a hundred years hence, snapshots of its most striking events will be published in the newspapers an hour later.... photographs will reproduce all of nature's colours."This showed major foresight, says Mr Nilsson. When Watkins was making his predictions, it would have taken a week for a picture of something happening in China to make its way into Western papers.
People thought photography itself was a miracle, and colour photography was very experimental, he says.
"The idea of having cameras gathering information from opposite ends of the world and transmitting them - he wasn't just taking a present technology and then looking to the next step, it was far beyond what anyone was saying at the time."
Patrick Tucker from the World Future Society, based in Maryland in the US, thinks Watkins might even be hinting at a much bigger future breakthrough.
"'Photographs will be telegraphed' reads strikingly like how we access information from the web," says Mr Tucker.

Against all Mayan odds...
2012 has started pretty well and is looking good! I know we're only a couple of weeks in, but January normally lends itself to doom and gloom. But, seriously, I just can't complain. I've no idea what the Mayans were on about, but it definitely doesn't feel like the end of the world..!
I've got a new Wedding Photography website on its way - that should be up and running in the next week or so hopefully. Up to me to get some of my images from the last few weddings across to Web Equip and we're good to go. Draft up at http://www.weddingsbyfresco.co.uk/
I've just finished an outdoor shoot with local group, the "Jon Palmer Acoustic Band," in an old machinery works in Menston, near Leeds. I'm currently processing the shots and putting some draft CD cover designs together for them. I'll blog more about that once we're closer to a final design, but I was chuffed with how it went. Great bunch of guys to work with.
Another shoot with Angie Shaw next week and before I know it, a successful January will be over. She's after some promo shots as well as album shots, so, again, looking forward to it. Fingers crossed the weather holds.
Onwards and upwards...

A new year - good times.....!
This is an incredibly quick post, simply to wish you all a very Happy New Year - I hope 2012 brings you all health and happiness.
I am really excited that the new Wedding Photography site is nearly up and running. My good friend and BRILLIANT web guru, Paul Clarke is looking after it for me, and of course, I don't need to tell you how much of a bonus it will be to have a bespoke Wedding Photography website.
Keep an eye out for it at http://www.weddingsbyfresco.co.uk/ - should be live very, very soon.
Bye for now,
Sean
